Update on Skylark IX Community Rowing

Work is progressing behind the scenes as we prepare to relaunch the Skylark IX Community Rowing Project. A small and dedicated team of volunteers have been working hard to get everything in place for our community built skiffs to return to the water this spring.

Our small fleet moved to a more accessible location this week, allowing us unrestricted access. The previous storage location of our skiffs had been a barrier to the rowing project, and it made accessing and towing them tricky. Our new location will allow us to row more frequently, and have easier towing routes to Loch Lomond and the Firth of Clyde.

Behind the scenes, our volunteers have been checking off our to-do list as we get ready to row again. They have worked tirelessly to make sure the skiffs are well-maintained, safe and secure, and repairing our skiff trailer. Others in the team have been learning how to promote the project on social media and online, as well as fundraising and making contact with our neighbouring rowing clubs nearby.

Before we can get back on the water regularly, we need to make sure that we are all fully trained, insured and that we are following all of the correct health and safety protocols. We’re seeking support from local rowers and rowing clubs to get us off to a positive start this season, and we can’t wait for you to join us out on the water (or the shore!).

If you’d like to join us, we are looking for rowers and non-rowers to help build up the Skylark IX Community Rowing Project. We can offer fantastic opportunities to learn how to row, be part of a passionate local community group, and best of all enjoy the freedom and beauty of rowing on some of Scotland’s most beautiful blue spaces.
