New responsibilities as a Barrage Balloon vessel
Northern France is occupied and Bournemouth and Poole become
increasingly important strategically. Skylark IX now serves as a Barrage Balloon Vessel under Petty Officer Charles Alfred Fairman, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR),
deploying these giant balloons to prevent enemy aircraft flying low and laying mines accurately.
