Let’s get ready for Summer Shine!

SKYLARK IX SHINE

Fridays : 15 July – 12 August (10am – 3pm)

Scottish Maritime Museum (Denny Tank), Castle Street, Dumbarton

The Dumbarton-based Skylark IX Recovery Project has announced a summer of free activities for 10 – 14 year olds living in West Dunbartonshire.

The Skylark IX Shine activities will run from 10am to 3pm every Friday between 15 July and 12 August at the Scottish Maritime Museum (Denny Tank) on Castle Street, Dumbarton.

Young people will join the ‘Skylark IX Crew’ for five weeks enjoying a raft of activities including model boatbuilding, media production, heritage textile crafting, creative writing, face-painting and games.

The Skylark IX Shine activities are part of the West Dunbartonshire Summer Shine programme which aims to increase the provision of free meals and social activities for schoolchildren over the holidays.

Jade West, Community Engagement Co-ordinator at the Skylark IX Recovery Project, says:

“We’ve lined up some fabulous activities for young people and, weather allowing, we will be enjoying them outside in the grounds of the Museum.

“Places are going fast so we’re urging anyone who may be interested to get in touch soon!”

The Skylark IX Recovery Project cares for the Skylark IX Dunkirk ‘Little Ship’ and leads boatbuilding training for those recovering from addictions in a Boatbuilding Workshop at the Scottish Maritime Museum.

The Skylark IX Recovery Project also runs a variety of community-based projects for those facing social isolation across West Dunbartonshire.

The Skylark IX Shine days, which have been made possible by the support of the West Dunbartonshire Summer Shine programme, build on the Project’s popular summer programme of activities for young people and adults held across Dumbarton last year.
